How do you clean cat urine out of couch cushions?

Learn how to use enzyme cleaners to finally remove cat urine from your couch cushions with Bio one™.

Cats urinate on furniture for a number of different reasons.  Don’t worry if your cat has made a mess on your couch or the cushions. We can help completely remove the urine and the smell with our 100% natural enzyme cleaner.

Older cats with bladder issues are more likely to create a mess on a couch cushion if they struggle to get up in time to make it to the litter tray or have continence issues. Young kittens can also have accidents before they understand how to use the litter tray or if they are afraid to jump down off the sofa. Marking can also become an issue with some cats, predominantly intact males cats, during mating season. Cats love the comfort of the sofa, and most owners adore seeing their cats happy and comfortable.

Why use an enzyme cleaner on cat urine accidents?

Enzyme cleaners work in an incredible way to break down the bacteria in urine, poo sick and a variety of pet odours. Enzyme cleaners contain good bacteria and enzymes. The enzymes quickly break down the bad bacteria to allow the good bacteria within the enzyme cleaner to ‘eat away’ at the bad bacteria. The enzymes and bacteria used are naturally occurring making them completely safe to use around the house and with pets.

The enzyme that helps to remove cat urine is a type of protease, which occurs naturally in plants. Certain types of protease enzymes are better at breaking down cat urine, these are identified and extracted to make Bio one™ pet odour remover. The enzyme cleaner is PH balanced, making it perfect for removing stains and odours from soft furnishings, including couch cushions. It can penetrate deep into the couch cushions without impacting the colour or texture, leaving the couch fresh, clean and looking great.

How to use Bio one for cat urine

Bio one™ is simple to use on couch cushions to remove cat urine. Simply follow these steps for application and removal of the stain and odour.

Step 1

If the area is still wet, you should remove any excess liquid using a clean cloth or paper towel, dab the area and avoid rubbing.

Step 2

If you haven’t already you need to mix your Bio one™ enzyme cleaner with water and shake it well before use. You will find instructions on the bottle spray detailing how much product vs water you need.

Step 3

Spray the area with Bio one™ pet odour remover, make sure to saturate the whole area thoroughly.

Step 4

Leave the product for 5-10 minutes to work into the fibres of the couch.

Step 5

Rub the area with a clean cloth to work the enzyme cleaner into the fibres and dab off any excess moisture.

Step 6

Leave the couch cushion to dry naturally. The smell will disappear, and you will be left with a lovely natural fragrance. Heavily soaked or soiled cushions may require a repeat application to ensure that the area is completely covered.

Preventing further couch accidents

If your cat is old and struggles to get off the sofa in time, you might want to consider a ramp. This could help them get to their litter box more easily and prevent further accidents. Another alternative is to use an absorbent pad that can be disposed of if your cat has an accident. Encourage your cat to sit on the pad, so any leaks or issues are caught straight away.

We understand that it can be very difficult to prevent accidents from happening in your home. We recommend always having a bottle of Bio one™, a great cat urine cleaner on hand for any unexpected issues. You can safely use Bio one™ on carpets, soft furnishings and hard floors, incorporating it into your regular routine to banish pet smells for good. Bio one™ is completely safe for pets to be around. You can spray it directly into the air, around pet beds, pet litter trays, and all over your sofa cushions to remove any bad odours that your cat or other pets leave behind. Bio one™ is vegan-friendly and safe for the environment.

What are enzymes?

Don’t be fooled to think that because enzymes are natural they are less effective than chemical cleaners. Enzymes are nature’s very own powerful cleaning tools. Making them the go to choice for pet owners who do not want to spray harmful chemicals around their pets and their home.

Simply put, enzymes are all around us performing millions of important tasks in our bodies and in nature every single day. They are a type of protein that act like a biological catalyst to speed up the break down of organic compounds.

Similarly to how saliva, (which contains enzymes), initiates the digestion process by breaking down food in our mouths, cleaning enzymes use the same ‘enzymatic digestion’ to effectively break down and eradicate the organic proteins present in urine, faeces, vomit, drool, dirt, food, and more.

This process not only makes cleaning easier but also prevents the growth of bad bacteria – the root cause of those unpleasant odours – in the air, on surfaces, and within the fibres of your soft furnishings.

Try out Bio one™ today, vomit and the other nasties is what nature created enzymes for.
