How to get dog pee out of carpet

Bio one™ can help your carpet be free from your dog's urine odour. We detail out the step by step process to help you get it right every time.

New puppies need to be taken outside every hour or so to help prevent pee and poop accidents on carpets. This is very difficult and even if you are taking them out regularly they can still come back inside and pee on the carpet. Puppy training can be a frustrating process that requires huge amounts of time and patience and will inevitably end up in an accident on your carpet.

But not to worry, we can help with the clean up and their cute faces make the mess worth it every time.

It’s not just puppies, when older dogs are left alone they can continue to have accidents, some dogs have very small bladders which means they struggle to hold their pee for more than a few hours. When owning a dog it is highly likely that at some point in your dog’s life you will need to clean dog pee out of the carpet. If dog urine is left on the carpet and not completely cleaned it can result in more accidents. Dogs have an incredible sense of smell and will want to continue to mark their territory if they can smell residual pee on the carpet. For effective training and to prevent more accidents it is essential that every single dog pee puddle is cleaned up properly.

In this article we take a look at the best way to get dog pee out of the carpet, so you can keep your house smelling fresh and clean.

Enzyme cleaners

The best way to clean organic matter from any surface is to use an enzymatic cleaner such as Bio one™  Enzyme cleaners work in a completely different way to traditional cleaners, they contain naturally occurring enzymes which do all of the hard work for you. Traditional cleaners such as bleach and your standard disinfectant sprays work using harsh chemicals to try to attack the bacteria. These cleaners can also ruin your fabrics and be harmful to your pets.

Enzyme cleaners use naturally occurring enzymes to break down the dog pee bacteria and particles to remove the odour for good. They are completely safe and natural so can be used as much as you want on dog pee near your pets without any harm coming to them.

The removal process

Getting dog pee out of your carpet is easy with the right dog urine neutraliser, such as Bio one™ . We detail out the step by step process to help you get it right every time.

Step one blotting

Step one is only needed if the dog pee is fresh and the carpet is still damp. You can skip this step if the dog pee has dried on or you are trying to remove an old stain. The basics of blotting are to remove as much of the urine away from the carpet as possible so there’s less urine for the enzyme cleaner to tackle. This will help make the process much faster and will result in less product wastage. Anything absorbent can be used for the blotting, such as paper towels or a cloth. Keep patting or blotting the area to remove as much as the pee as possible, avoid the temptation to rub the pee as this will spread.

Step two spraying

Step two involves getting your correctly mixed Bio one™ and spraying the area. You need to fully saturate the area with the Bio one™ product for the enzymes to work properly. This is even more important if you are treating an old stain or pee that has been left on the carpet for several hours. Keep spraying until the whole area is wet.

Step three waiting

Enzyme cleaners need time like any other cleaner to work their magic. You need to wait for  at least 5-10 minutes for the Bio one™ cleaner to work, try setting a timer so you aren’t tempted to check the stain before the time is up. If the stain is an old or well worn stain you can increase the wait time further, and even overnight if you need to and just remember to respray if the area starts drying or the enzymes will become inactive.

Step four agitating

The end of the cleaning process is nearly here. You now simply need to agitate the carpet with a clean cloth to further work in the enzymes and leave to air dry.

What are enzymes?

Don’t be fooled to think that because enzymes are natural they are less effective than chemical cleaners. Enzymes are nature’s very own powerful cleaning tools. Making them the go to choice for pet owners who do not want to spray harmful chemicals around their pets and their home.

Simply put, enzymes are all around us performing millions of important tasks in our bodies and in nature every single day. They are a type of protein that act like a biological catalyst to speed up the break down of organic compounds.

Similarly to how saliva, (which contains enzymes), initiates the digestion process by breaking down food in our mouths, cleaning enzymes use the same ‘enzymatic digestion’ to effectively break down and eradicate the organic proteins present in urine, faeces, vomit, drool, dirt, food, and more.

This process not only makes cleaning easier but also prevents the growth of bad bacteria – the root cause of those unpleasant odours – in the air, on surfaces, and within the fibres of your soft furnishings.
