Potty training is a messy business, it’s not surprising when wee and poo are involved, accidents do happen. The most important thing is how you deal with it.

Keeping a calm and patient environment will help your little ones to grow confidence in the process, So if there is pee on your precious carpet or hardwood floors, relax, breath, tidy up the mess without fuss. Find out what cleans toddler pee off the floor and how you should tackle it.

What cleans pee off the floor?

To tackle toddler pee, you’ll need a product that can neutralise nasty smells and remove bad bacteria. Anything you use also needs to be child-friendly and non-toxic to make sure it’s safe for little one’s sensitive skin. Enzymatic cleaners use the power of biology and nature to disinfect. They contain a mixture of friendly bacteria and naturally activating enzymes to break down waste particles. This eliminates visible dirt and stains, while banishing bad odours.

Bio One™ is the perfect example. It’s an all-natural enzyme cleaner that’s eco-friendly, vegan and safe for toddlers and pets. We also have a new range of products coming soon, designed for tidying up after our tots. Make sure you sign up to our newsletter for updates.

How do you clean urine off surfaces?

How you clean up the toddler pee depends on the surface. Hard surfaces like floorboards, vinyl or tile are generally easier. With the right products, stains and smells should easily lift with a simple treatment and wipe. Soft surfaces like carpets and rugs are a bit trickier. The fluffy fibres soak up liquid and cling onto debris. Luckily, when you leave an enzyme cleaner to soak in, it will get deep down to remove all the tricky-to-reach mess. Whatever the surface, you need to make sure you don’t damage it. Test Bio One™ on a small, discreet area and see how it reacts before covering the whole stain. 1. Act fast

Once your toddler has had an accident, you need to start the clean-up job straight away. It’s harder to disinfect a soft surface when the wee soaks in, dries, hardens or crystallises. Urine spills on hard surfaces could also be a slip hazard, so you need to make it safe for your family. Leaving the stain also gives bacteria and their accompanying odours a chance to develop.

2. Gather supplies

First, grab your bottle of Bio One™ . Use the instructions to correctly mix the solution or follow the markers on mix + spray bottles. You’ll also need some gloves to protect your hands from the pee and a clean white cloth. Plain white fabric is essential as it stops the chance of any colour transfer.

3. Clean with Bio One™

Hard surfaces

  1. Spray the stained area all over.
  2. Leave to soak for five to ten minutes.
  3. Wipe the area with a damp cloth.
  4. If the stain needs more work, leave for a further five minutes then repeat the above step.
  5. Leave to air dry.

Soft surfaces

  1. Spray the soft fibres until the area is completely saturated. When the surface is damp with solution, that’s when the enzymes work their cleaning magic.
  2. Leave to soak for five to ten minutes.
  3. Blot the carpet or rug gently with a damp cloth, making sure you don’t push the liquid further down.
  4. If the stain needs more work, leave for a further five minutes then repeat the above step.
  5. Leave to air dry.

How do I get rid of my toddler’s urine smell?

An enzyme cleaner, like Bio One™, is a powerful disinfectant and deodoriser all in one. So you don’t need an extra product to eliminate nasty whiffs. In fact, heavily perfumed products and air fresheners can be harmful to our delicate respiratory systems and the planet. Often, they just mask smells without treating the root cause. As it’s child-friendly, Bio One™ can be used to get rid of bad smells on any surfaces your tot touches – their potty, plastic toys, changing mat etc.

What are enzymes?

Don’t be fooled to think that because enzymes are natural they are less effective than chemical cleaners. Enzymes are nature’s very own powerful cleaning tools. Making them the go to choice for parents who do not want to spray harmful chemicals around their children and their home.

Simply put, enzymes are all around us performing millions of important tasks in our bodies and in nature every single day. They are a type of protein that act like a biological catalyst to speed up the break down of organic compounds.

Similarly to how saliva, (which contains enzymes), initiates the digestion process by breaking down food in our mouths, cleaning enzymes use the same ‘enzymatic digestion’ to effectively break down and eradicate the organic proteins present in urine, faeces, vomit, dirt, food, and more.

This process not only makes cleaning easier but also prevents the growth of bad bacteria – the root cause of those unpleasant odours – in the air, on surfaces, and within the fibres of your soft furnishings.
