How to get rid of vomit smell in carpet

How to get rid of vomit smell in carpet

Nobody wants people to enter their home and be greeted by the smell of vomit. But, if someone in your household (human or a precious pet) has been unwell in an unfortunate carpeted spot, that might be the problem you’re facing.

Sticky substances and unpleasant smells tend to cling to the fibres in carpet, making it a whole lot harder to disinfect than a wipe-clean hard surface.

However, it can be remedied. If you follow the right steps and use an effective cleaner which deals with the mess, bacteria and odours, your house will be hygienic and smelling fresh in no time at all.

Step 1: Remove the vomit

The first (and probably most unpleasant) step of the process is removing the vomit. Before you start, grab a pair of rubber gloves to protect yourself and a bucket or container which you can keep nearby and use to collect the solid matter. If possible, open the windows in the room you’re in to air it out and help you deal with the smell as you handle the sick.

  • Pick it up by hand (with your gloves on) or use a scoop utensil, like a dustpan.
  • Place any solid matter in the bucket.
  • Repeat until all the vomit has been removed from the carpet.
  • Once you’re removed all the sick, dispose of it down the toilet.
  • Flush it away with an extra bucket of water if needed.

Step 2: Remove excess liquid

Even after you’ve cleaned up the solid mess you might be left with some residual liquid. That’s got to go before you can really start disinfecting and tackling the smell. Use a clean towel or cloth to soak it up and wring them out in another bucket until all the liquid is gone. As it is on a soft surface, gently dab or blot the liquid without rubbing or pushing it further into the carpet fibres beneath.

Step 3: Grab an enzyme cleaner

If you don’t already have an effortlessly effective enzyme cleaner in your cupboard, now’s the time to get one. Bio One is specifically designed to make soft and hard surfaces hygienic and odour-free, making it the perfect vomit smell cleaner. The product is 100% natural and toxin-free, using powerful organic enzymes to tackle the root cause of that unpleasant pong – bacteria. By killing 99.9% of bacteria, it helps to get rid of and stops any odour developing further. Not only that, but it’s also child, pet and eco-friendly so you can use it safely, wherever you need to, without harming the planet.

Step 4: Mix it up

Bio one odour eliminator + surface cleaner comes in a concentrated form to give you even more mighty cleaning power to help fight off stubborn vomit smells. A 250ml bottle will make up to 2.1 litres of solution so grab a spray bottle and simply mix 12mls of the concentrated product with 100mls of water. If you have a Bio One mix + spray bottle, all you need to do is follow the markers on it.

Step 5: Treat

Time to get to work. Now all the vomit and liquid is out of the way, you can treat the contaminated area. Thoroughly spray all the spots on the carpet that came into contact with the vomit using Bio one . Make sure the surface is completely covered and spray the area until it is very damp.

Step 6: Leave to soak

Once you feel the carpet is totally saturated with Bio one , it’s time to let it soak in further. Soaking will help the product get deep down into the carpet fibres, which will make sure any hard to get to spots aren’t missed. This is when Bio oneTM breaks down and eradicates the harmful and bad-smelling bacteria. Leave the product to soak for five to ten minutes.

Step 7: Check and respray if needed

Blot or wipe the area with a clean cloth to see if the vomit, stain and smells have lifted. Using a cloth instead of kitchen paper will prevent bits coming off onto the carpet. Leave the area slightly damp as that is when Bio one  is working and removing germs. If the area needs more treatment, respray and leave for a further five minutes.

Step 8: Wipe and leave to dry

Once the carpet has been fully treated, wipe or blot the area again with a fresh clean cloth to remove any residual product. The stain and vomit odour should have been lifted, leaving your carpet smelling fragrantly of Grapefruit and Tea Tree. Once the excess is gone, leave the carpet to dry fully.

Conclusion

Now, your home and carpet should be back to smelling fresh – giving you a safe and clean environment. Most importantly, that nasty odour will have been banished until the next unfortunate mishap occurs. Luckily, Bio one has multiple uses. Give it a go to tackle any smells created by urine, faces, mould, damp, tobacco, pet litter, food, bins or drains.

What are enzymes?

Don’t be fooled to think that because enzymes are natural they are less effective than chemical cleaners. Enzymes are nature’s very own powerful cleaning tools. Making them the go to choice for customers who do not want to spray harmful chemicals around their home.

Simply put, enzymes are all around us performing millions of important tasks in our bodies and in nature every single day. They are a type of protein that act like a biological catalyst to speed up the break down of organic compounds.

Similarly to how saliva, (which contains enzymes), initiates the digestion process by breaking down food in our mouths, cleaning enzymes use the same ‘enzymatic digestion’ to effectively break down and eradicate the organic proteins present in urine, faeces, vomit, drool, dirt, food, and more.

This process not only makes cleaning easier but also prevents the growth of bad bacteria – the root cause of those unpleasant odours – in the air, on surfaces, and within the fibres of your soft furnishings.

Try out Bio one today, vomit and the other nasties is what nature created enzymes for.
