How to get rid of cooking smells in your house

How to get rid of cooking smells in your house

There’s nothing worse than being able to smell last night’s dinner throughout the house when you have guests arriving.

This evening’s lingering kitchen fragrance is the sizzling bacon grease from this morning. There is something unappealing about the pungent smell of the fried leftovers that cause your stomach to turn.

Foods can smell more poignantly when they are oily, which explains why some foods smell more pungent than others.

Bio One™ is an odour remover designed to eliminate pungent smells. So, enjoy treating yourself to your favourite foods without feeling guilty about smelling out the kitchen, especially if you plan to host friends and family.

How to eliminate bad cooking smells

  1. Let fresh air circulate
This may seem obvious, but you should start by opening the windows in your house to allow the air to circulate to eliminate the odour. If you’re going to be cooking fragrant things like fish or broccoli, be proactive and turn on your vent and/or open some windows — ventilation is essential!
  2. Gather your tools
First, gather all the necessary tools. When everything is in close reach, you can work uninterruptedly on removing the excess food or spilt liquids. To keep yourself safe, you’ll need gloves. To make the space safe, clean, and hygienic, you’ll also need an enzyme cleaner, clean cloth or towels and a sponge to clean the hob/oven.
  3. Clean any food mess
If there is food on the surface, make sure you clean this up to prevent any bacteria from soaking into your worksurfaces. Even on hard surfaces, particularly real wood, the liquid/grease will seep deeper into the wood’s natural fibres or the crevices between the boards, making clean up and removal more difficult. As the bacteria grows, food odours can get worse with time. So, do something right away, whatever you decide to do.
  4. Eliminate any grease
Put on your gloves and use a paper towel, mop, or other clean material to absorb the grease off the worksurfaces, hob and floor. On hard surfaces, a single wipe may be sufficient to completely remove the grease. You want to ensure all the grease is cleaned up to prevent any further lingering smells.
  5. Clean the area
After the grease and food have been removed, the area needs to be cleaned. You must completely disinfect the surface to make it safe and stop the odour from lingering. An enzyme cleaning like Bio one™ odour eliminator and surface cleaner can help with this. By employing organic enzymes rather than harsh chemicals, enzyme cleaners eliminate harmful bacteria from surfaces permanently.

How to remove cooking smells in your house.

  1. Remove any solid matter.
  2. Mix 12mls Bio one™ concentrate to 100mls of water, or simply follow the markers on your Bio one™ mix + spray bottle.
  3. Spray generously onto the affected area. For soft surfaces, carefully work the solution into the fibres without rubbing.
  4. The enzymes will continue to work while damp therefore spray more if required.
  5. Leave for 5-10 mins, wipe with a damp cloth and leave to dry naturally. Repeat if desired.
  6. Safety
Always test a small area first. Avoid contact with eyes, skin or food. In case of eye contact, flush with water for 15 minutes and seek medical advice. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Sip water and seek medical attention. In case of skin contact, rinse well with water. If irritation persists, seek medical advice.
  7. Wash your hands
After all that cleaning up, your hands need a clean too. Even if you wore gloves, it’s always a good idea to practice excellent personal hygiene. Wash them thoroughly with an antibacterial hand wash to remove any lingering bacteria.

What are enzymes?

Don’t be fooled to think that because enzymes are natural they are less effective than chemical cleaners. Enzymes are nature’s very own powerful cleaning tools. Making them the go to choice for customers who do not want to spray harmful chemicals around their home.

Simply put, enzymes are all around us performing millions of important tasks in our bodies and in nature every single day. They are a type of protein that act like a biological catalyst to speed up the break down of organic compounds.

Similarly to how saliva, (which contains enzymes), initiates the digestion process by breaking down food in our mouths, cleaning enzymes use the same ‘enzymatic digestion’ to effectively break down and eradicate the organic proteins present in urine, faeces, vomit, drool, dirt, food, and more.

This process not only makes cleaning easier but also prevents the growth of bad bacteria – the root cause of those unpleasant odours – in the air, on surfaces, and within the fibres of your soft furnishings.
