Does rabbit pee stain clothes?

All urine, whether it’s from your pet rabbit, any animal or even a toddler is likely to leave a stain. That’s thanks to urochrome or urobilin, the chemical pigment that makes wee yellow. The intensity of the stain may get better or worse over time and it depends on what was in the wee or how hydrated the animal was. It might even leave red or blue stains if it reacts with the fabrics. Rabbits specifically have calcium in their wee that can be thick, chalky and opaque. As usual, the faster you tackle a stain, the better your chance of eliminating it.

How do I get urine stains out of clothes?

How to remove urine from clothes with Bio one™:

1. First check the label on the clothes to see if the garment is machine washable. If it is, the colours won’t run when you apply the product.
2. If the clothes are still wet with urine, dab off or soak up any excess.
3. Spray the affected area thoroughly with Bio one™ until it’s completely covered and very damp.
4. Leave the item for five to ten minutes so the product can fully soak into the fibres.
5. Has the urine stain and smell lifted from the clothes? If so, wipe off any excess, leaving the garment slightly damp and let it air dry. If it needs an extra spray, respray and leave for five more minutes.
6. Leave the item to dry and then wash it according to the label instructions.

Why does my rabbit pee on me?

If your rabbit is a new pet, and it pees on you, it’s not totally surprising. It might be urinating on you because it’s scared or anxious and doesn’t feel comfortable around you yet. Let your rabbit come to you and reward it with treats so it makes a positive association. If you’ve had your bunny for a while, regular urination on you might be because it needs training. To toilet train them, create a corner they can use and put their poo in it so they associate that area with that smell. When they do wee, take them to this corner and reward them when they use it. Urinating in the wrong place might be because your rabbit is unwell or being territorial with scent marking. Take it to the vet where you can check for underlying illness and get them neutered to prevent spraying.

Is rabbit pee harmful to humans?

Urine from a healthy pet, or any animal, shouldn’t be harmful. However, if the animal is infected with an illness or bug, it can be dangerous. A common bug that pet rabbits suffer from is Encephalitozoon cuniculi – a microorganism that can cause neurological disease. Most bunnies have antibodies that protect them, even if they have it, but it can be spread by their urine and is a concern for people with compromised immune systems. It usually passes on through open wounds or sores so avoid getting too close to (and definitely not ingesting) any bodily fluids from your pet and wear gloves to protect yourself.
