According to gov.uk “the best way to protect yourself from infections like coronavirus is to regularly wash your hands with soap and water. If soap or water aren’t available and your hands are visibly clean, then sanitiser gel can be used. But proper hand washing is the most effective method and this should be your first choice.”
We would like to highlight the fact that it does NOT say that a hand sanitiser with 60% alcohol volume must be used. The PHE also mentions only the use of hand sanitisers or gels, no mention of alcohol. So will alcohol free hand sanitiser work? Nobody knows enough about this particular strain of Coronavirus, ( Covid19), to categorically state what will and won’t work, but we can say that it as effective as an alcohol based hand sanitiser. Coronavirus is what is known as an ‘envelope virus’ which means that it has a protective barrier surrounding it. It was initially thought that only alcohol based sanitizers could penetrate this barrier, but testing shows that a quaternary ammonium also breaks down this protective coating. Aroma Care’s hand sanitising gel contains a minimum of 0.05% Benzalkonium Chloride, a quaternary ammonium – so would be as efficient as an alcohol based sanitiser.
It should also be noted that a clear benefit is the extended protection that occurs with alcohol free sanitiser. Alcohol-based product’s ability to kill bacteria ends once the product has dried on the skin due to evaporation, but benzalkonium-based products continue to provide protection well after the solution has dried.
Alcohol free solution is also much more gentle on the hands and does not dry out the skin – Aroma Care’s hand sanitising gel even leaves your hands feeling soft and hydrated.
Aroma Care’s hand sanitiser is proven to kill 99.999% of Norovirus, Avian and Swine Flu viruses, MRSA, Listeria, Salmonella and E.coli.
With the Aroma Care Solutions hand sanitiser a little goes a long way as you only need to use a pea size amount while remaining as effective (in fact using too much can make your hands feel a little tacky). As you only need to use less, you will save money as each bottle will go further.
So these are the facts, ultimately it is a personal choice as to which way you go, but at least now it will be an informed choice.
